Then, on November 10th, 1678, they set out for Montreal. They arrived in Montreal on November 21st, 1678. Henri de Tonty said that this area had not been settled for very long. There was a little cluster of log cabins surrounded with Indian wigwams. M. de La Salle got several birch-bark canoes that could easily have been carried by two men.
On November 16, 1678, they set out for Fort Frontenac in modern-day Kingston, Ontario. M. de La Salle was the owner and governor of Fort Frontenac. On their journey from Montreal to Fort Frontenac, they encountered a lot of rapids and waterfalls.
