Seated studio portrait of the man Es-en-ce, or Little Shell, or Ais-Aince (Little Clam), or Ayabe-Way-We-Tung (He Who Rests On His Way), wearing a feather in his hair, two side braids with metal beads, a beaded necklace, a wide embroidered or beaded band and what appears to be an Abraham Lincoln Peace Medal at his neck, a dark checkered shirt, and a dark blanket wrapped around his lower body. He is holding a simple pipe tomahawk with thick wooden stem in his lap. Member of an 1874 Delegation.
